VEX VR
This page documents my work and learning throughout the VEX VR Computer Science course.
Challenge: [Basketball Drills]
Goal
Build a process to move through grid squares, which go from 1 to 8 in a fixed order. The robot should follow a pattern in which it goes from 1 to start, 2 to start, and then so on and so forth for all 8 grid squares.
My Solution
What I Learned
I learned when to use a repeat block, knowing to put it when a repeated sequence is forming. I also learned that when I do not use the reverse block, I can make the robot rotate, and make it go back to start.
Challenge: [Storm the Castle]
Goal
Clear every building on the Castle’s grounds by pushing all building pieces (including the Castle) off of the side of the Playground in an order.
My Solution
What I Learned
I learned how velocity can determine how many blocks actually fall from impact. I also learned that using turn velocity as well can speed up a challenge, helping to complete it faster.
Challenge: [Draw a House]
Goal
Program the VR Robot to draw a house on the Art Canvas using the Pen block. Use a square for the house and triangle for the roof. Add extra stuff like a garage, a window, and a door.
My Solution
What I Learned
I learned when to put a repeat block, for certain sections you do not need one but for others you do. I learned how to put the pen down and up and how to use it when I need to.
Challenge: [Wall Maze with Bumpers]
Goal
Create a sequence and navigate the robot from start to finish in the maze using bumper sensors.
My Solution
What I Learned
I learned how to use bumper sensors as well as using the wait block with the bumper sensors.
Challenge: [Wall Maze with Distance Sensors]
Goal
Create a project where the VR Robot navigates the Wall Maze Playground from start to finish using the Distance Sensor.
My Solution
What I Learned
I learned how to utilize the distance sensor, now knowing when to use them, which helps get rid of unnecessary blocks and makes the project shorter.
Challenge: [Drive to Three Numbers Challenge]
Goal
Drive the VR Robot to three numbers using the Location Sensor and comparison blocks on the Number Grid Map Playground. To complete this challenge, the VR Robot must drive to the numbers ‘25,’ ‘42,’ and ‘78’ in any order.
My Solution
What I Learned
I learned how to use location sensor as well as how to do so in correct sequencing.
Challenge: [Disk Color Maze]
Goal
Program the VR Robot to move through the Disk Maze from Start to Finish, turn around 180 degrees, and then move back through the Disk Maze to the original starting point.
My Solution
What I Learned
I learned how to use the forever block with if blocks inside of them, having the project repeat it over and over again.
Challenge: [Disk Mover Challenge]
Goal
Using the electromagnet, pick up and place one disk of each color inside each colored goal. Each goal should have one green, one red, and one blue disk to complete this challenge.
My Solution
What I Learned
I learned how to use the repeat block inside of another repeat block as well as the turn to heading block, which helps to remove any unnecessary blocks in the code.
